White Pumpkin and Peas Mor Kootu

Grocery List:
1. White Pumpkin, washed, peeled and cut into elongated pieces 1 and 1/2 cups
2. Green peas ( fresh or frozen) washed 1/2 cup
3. Curry Leaves washed and chopped a few
4. Coconut ( Dessicated or Coconut bits) Fresh or Frozen 1/16 cup
From the Pantry:
1. Jeera whole ( or cumin powder) 2 tspns.
2. Rai 1/2 tspn.
3. Green Chillies 1 and 1/2 small washes and cut into half
4. Cooking oil 1 tspn.
5. Water 1/8 cup
6. Salt to taste
7. Asafoetida a pinch
8. Yogurt 1/4 cup
9. Rice whole ( any) 1 tbspn.
Method:
1. Add washed and chopped White Pumpkin and washed Peas to a deep pot and add water and salt. Let the vegetables boil for 5 mts. or till have pumpkin looks bit transparent on low heat.
2. Grind Jeera, Green chillies, Rice and coconut to a fine paste with little water ( dont add too much water) and add to cooked vegetables.
3. Mix the masala paste and vegetables and let simmer on low heat for about 1/2 mt. to let raw smell go away.
4. Turn off heat. Add yogurt to the vegetables.
5. In a Tadka Pan, add cooking oil , Rai and asafoetida and let Rai splutter. Add to the vegetables.
6. Garnish with Curry Leaves.
Note: Serve piping hot with Plain Rice and Ghee, Rasam or Sambar.
