                                      Moong Dal with Garlic ( Slow Cooker Recipe)

Prep Time: 2 and 1/2 hours

Grocery List:

1. Moon Dal 1/8 cup washed

2. Cilantro Leaves a few washed and chopped finely

3. Curry Leaves ( optional) a few washed and chopped

4. Garlic Pods whole. 8 to 10 peeled


From the Pantry:

1. Turmeric Powder - a pinch

2. Red Chilli Powder - a pinch

3. Jeera Seeds (whole) - 1/8 tspn. OR cumin powder a pinch

4. Rai - 1/8 tspn.

5. Asafoetida - a pinch

6. Cooking oil (or ghee if preferred) - 1 and 1/2 tbspn.

7. salt - to taste

8. Water 1/2 cup


Method:

1. Add washed Moong dal with water to crockpot and set to high. Add turmeric powder and a few drops of oil.

2. Cook the dal on high heat setting, adding more water till dal is soft and mashable. It should take minimum 2 hours for Moong Dal to cook in slow cooker.

3. Once dal if fully cooked change setting to warm. Add salt as to taste and chilli powder. 

4. In a Tadka Pan, pour oil, and on low heat let oil heat up. To this add Rai seeds,  Jeera or cumin powder, asafoetida, garlic pods  and let Rai splutter. Also make sure garlic pods turn bit brown. Remove from heat and add to dal.

5. Garnish Dal with cilantro leaves and curry leaves.


           Note: Serve dal piping hot with cooked white Rice and ghee, Rotis or Naans.
